Sirens select Kristyna Kaltounkova with No. 1 pick in 2025 PWHL Draft

With the first overall pick in the draft, the New York Sirens have chosen a forward for the second year in a row.
Forward Kristyna Kaltounková from Colgate University was selected first overall by the New York Sirens in the 2025 PWHL Draft on Tuesday.
The centre from Vlasim, Czech Republic is known for her physical presence, two-way play, and wicked shot. Kaltounkova had 233 points over the 171 games she played at the college level. In her final year, the 23-year-old scored 26 goals and had 22 assists for 48 points, marking an impressive season that was still down from the previous two where she had 57 points in each.
Kaltounkova is the first European-born player to go first overall in the PWHL draft.
Like Sarah Fillier, the Sirens’ first overall selection from 2024, Kaltounkova is a strong scoring presence the franchise should be able to build around. This new rookie will also be expected to play a huge part in replacing the production of Alex Carpenter who was signed by PWHL Seattle during the expansion process.
This is the second consecutive year the New York Sirens have had the first overall pick in the draft. In the PWHL, draft order is determined by how many points each team collects after they have been eliminated from playoff contention.
