Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the rose 0.98% to hit a new 5-year high.

The best performers of the session on the were Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (TYO:), which rose 9.60% or 624.00 points to trade at 7,121.00 at the close. Meanwhile, SKY Perfect JSAT Holdings Inc. (TYO:) added 6.44% or 46.00 points to end at 760.00 and Daiwa Securities Group Inc. (TYO:) was up 5.94% or 60.00 points to 1,069.50 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were CyberAgent Inc (TYO:), which fell 2.46% or 22.50 points to trade at 892.30 at the close. Shiseido Co., Ltd. (TYO:) declined 2.20% or 93.00 points to end at 4,128.00 and Hino Motors, Ltd. (TYO:) was down 1.79% or 9.10 points to 498.60.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2640 to 1052 and 199 ended unchanged.

Shares in Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (TYO:) rose to all time highs; gaining 9.60% or 624.00 to 7,121.00. Shares in SKY Perfect JSAT Holdings Inc. (TYO:) rose to 5-year highs; up 6.44% or 46.00 to 760.00. Shares in Daiwa Securities Group Inc. (TYO:) rose to 5-year highs; up 5.94% or 60.00 to 1,069.50.

The , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 6.26% to 22.40 a new 1-month high.

Crude oil for March delivery was down 0.01% or 0.01 to $72.78 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in March rose 0.09% or 0.07 to hit $78.36 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.41% or 8.35 to trade at $2,059.95 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.22% to 145.21, while EUR/JPY rose 0.17% to 158.89.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 102.12.
