‘Jackass’ alum Bam Margera gets 6 months of probation after family fight

Former Jackass star Bam Margera will spend six months on probation after pleading guilty to two minor summary offenses in connection with a family altercation last year in Pennsylvania.

An attorney for Margera, Michael van der Veen, told Entertainment Weekly on Wednesday that misdemeanor charges of simple assault and terroristic threats were withdrawn, and that Margera, 44, ultimately pleaded guilty to two counts of disorderly conduct, which amount to “not much more than a parking ticket.”

“We’re glad that the case is over and behind him,” van der Veen said. “Bam is doing really well, and we look forward to his success in the future.”

The case related to an April 2023 fight between the Viva La Bam alum and his brother, Jess Margera. Last year, Jess testified that after seeing a text message suggesting mental health treatment, Bam hit him so hard that his eardrum ruptured. Jess also said that Bam kicked in Jess’ girlfriend’s door, and that he threatened to shoot members of their family.

However, Jess said in court that he only pressed charges because he wanted his brother “to get the help, because I feel like this is our last chance.” He added, “I don’t care about the money. My brother’s a good dude when he’s not messed up. I don’t think he would hurt a fly. It’s just when he’s been up for days, it’s scary.”

Fellow defense attorney William J. Brennan told the Associated Press that Bam had gotten clean and sober since the altercation. “You can really say he won his case before today just by turning his life around,” he said.

After Wednesday’s hearing, Margera told Philadelphia news station WPVI, “I needed that to realize I would go on drinking benders and I would end up in situations that were really not good.” He added, “Now that I’ve done this amount of time, I don’t want to go back to that lifestyle.”

Margera married model Dannii Marie last month. In his vows, he expressed gratitude toward his partner for her support as he quit drinking, adding, “I cannot thank you enough.”
