Falcons QB Kirk Cousins absent from voluntary organized team activities

The Atlanta Falcons are going to have to organize their team activities without Captain Kirk.

Quarterback Kirk Cousins was not in attendance for the team’s voluntary organized team activities, head coach Raheem Morris told reporters on Tuesday.

The 13-year NFL veteran was replaced as the Falcons starter by rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr. in Week 16 last season. At the time of his benching, Cousins led the league with 16 interceptions and was tied for the league lead in fumbles.

Cousins, 36, threw for 3508 yards and 18 touchdowns in 14 games to go along with the 16 interceptions.

The Falcons posted a 7-7 record with Cousins at the helm and proceeded to go 1-2 under Penix to finish 8-9 and miss the playoffs.

Atlanta signed Cousins to a four-year, $180 million contract in the 2024 off-season with $100 million guaranteed before selecting Penix No. 8 overall in the NFL draft.
