Blue Jays recall Easton Lucas, DFA Jose Urena

Left-hander Easton Lucas has been recalled from triple-A Buffalo, while right-hander Jose Urena has been designated for assignment, the team announced prior to Saturday’s game against the Athletics.

Lucas allowed zero runs in his first two starts (10.1 innings) of the season filling in for the injured Max Scherzer before he was roughed up (14 runs) in his next two, resulting in a demotion to the minors. He has a 5.88 ERA in six starts for the Buffalo Bisons.

Lucas could be useful for length Saturday with the Blue Jays employing an opener, Braydon Fisher, against the A’s.

Urena was signed by the Blue Jays on May 5 after being designated for assignment by the New York Mets.

The Dominican had a 3.65 ERA in six appearances (two starts) over 12.1 innings with Toronto, his eighth major-league team.
