For some reason, people in movies and on TV have to be impossibly smart. It’s not enough to be, say, a world-renowned expert in an obscure field that puts you in high demand for people with very specific problems — you have to be an expert in multiple obscure fields, speak five languages and know karate. It really breaks the suspension of disbelief. Like, when did they have time to get all those PhDs between judo chops?
It’s enough to make you long for a simpleton to bumble their way through the plot just as clumsily as you would. Fortunately, movies and TV are riddled with morons with hearts (and possibly brains) of gold. Reddit named them when user DrScientist812 asked r/AskReddit, “Who is the best idiot character in a movie or show?”
