A woman’s body has been recovered at a popular seaside resort as temperatures rocketed to 71F.
Emergency services were called to the beach in Chalkwell, Essex, this morning at about 10.15am following reports of a person in difficulties.
A stretch of the beach was closed off as Essex Police, Southend Coastguard, the air ambulance and the RNLI attended the scene.

Officers later confirmed a woman had died.
A spokesman for Essex Police said the unidentified woman’s death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
They added: ‘We were called by colleagues in the coastguard to concerns for the welfare of a woman in the water at 10.15am this morning, Monday 7 June.
‘We arrived and sadly found a woman had died.
‘We are at the scene alongside colleagues in the ambulance service and will issue a further update when we can.’

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson said: ‘I can confirm EEAST responded to an emergency call shortly after 10am regarding an incident in Chalkwell.
‘We sent an ambulance and two rapid response cars to the scene.
‘Sadly, despite the best efforts of all involved, the patient had died.’
