Why is there no double header on April 6? Explained
Initially, two matches were scheduled for Sunday, April 6, in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
The ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has been keeping cricket fans worldwide on the edge of their seats with thrilling matches every day. Traditionally, weekends have been particularly exciting, as double-headers—two games in a single day—are scheduled on both Saturdays and Sundays. However, in certain seasons, various factors have led to exceptions, with some Saturdays featuring only one match.
In a surprising turn of events, the third Sunday of IPL 2025, April 6, will witness just a single encounter, an evening showdown between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Gujarat Titans (GT). This unexpected scheduling decision has left many fans puzzled, as they eagerly anticipated another Sunday packed with back-to-back matches. The reasoning behind this unusual fixture remains unclear, fueling speculation among cricket enthusiasts about potential logistical or broadcasting considerations.
Initially, two matches were scheduled for Sunday, April 6, in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The first match of the day, an afternoon fixture between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), was set to take place at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, it was rescheduled, leaving only one match on Sunday.
The KKR vs. LSG game will now be played on Tuesday, April 8, instead of Sunday. The rescheduling occurred after Kolkata police informed the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) that they would not be able to provide adequate security for the match on April 6, as the date coincides with the Hindu festival of Ram Navami. In response, CAB approached the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) with a request to shift the fixture, and the board approved the rescheduling.
As a result, April 6 will feature just one IPL encounter, an evening showdown between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Gujarat Titans (GT). While fans may have expected a double-header, the decision was made to ensure safety and smooth event management during the festival.
