Patriots’ Vrabel addresses viral Diggs boat video, stresses good decision-making

First-year New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel said he’s aware of a viral video that surfaced of one of his team’s top free-agent acquisitions.

Wide receiver Stefon Diggs, who signed a three-year, $69-million contract with the Patriots this off-season, was the centre piece of a viral video posted Tuesday that saw him carrying an unidentified pink substance. while surrounded by three women on a boat.

“It’s something that we’re aware of,” Vrabel told reporters when asked about the Diggs video Wednesday after the team’s voluntary OTA practice.

Vrabel also made sure to stress good decision-making when asked about the video.

“Obviously, we want to make great decisions on and off the field. We’re hoping that with our time on the field today, and when we don’t have a script and we’re on the call periods, that we’re making great decisions.

“The message will be the same for all our players. We’re trying to make great decisions. Any conversations that I’ve had with Stefon will remain between him and I and the club.”

Diggs was not in attendance at OTAs on Wednesday as he continues to rehab from a torn ACL he suffered in Week 8 of last season with the Houston Texans.

The veteran receiver joins a Patriots team that finished last in receiving yards in 2024. The 31-year-old receiver had amassed six straight 1,000-yard seasons before the ACL injury ruined that streak in 2024, his first and only campaign with the Texans after he was acquired in a trade with the Buffalo Bills.

Vrabel was hired as the Patriots’ head coach in January as he looks to revive the franchise he won three Super Bowls with as a player.

New England finished last in the AFC East last season with a 4-13 record, but did see some positive signs from rookie quarterback Drake Maye, the third-overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
