USA’s McAvoy to miss 4 Nations final vs. Canada with infection
USA defenceman Charlie McAvoy will not play in Thursday’s 4 Nations Face-Off final against Canada.
The Boston Bruins announced Tuesday that the defenceman was admitted to Massachusetts General Hospital to undergo further testing on an upper-body injury on Monday, and was being evaluated by the team’s Dr. Peter Asnis.
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported that McAvoy is sidelined with an infection related to the upper-body injury.
The 27-year-old McAvoy did not play in the team’s 2-1 loss to Sweden in Monday’s round-robin finale.
McAvoy’s big hit on Connor McDavid on Saturday was seen as a momentum changer in the team’s 3-1 win over Canada in group play to book a spot in the final.
Canada clipped Finland 5-3 Monday to secure its spot.
Watch the 4 Nations Face-Off final live Thursday on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+, starting at 7:30 p.m. ET / 4:30 p.m. PT.
