Trump v Harris: Watch the highlights

Your support helps us to tell the story

My recent work focusing on Latino voters in Arizona has shown me how crucial independent journalism is in giving voice to underrepresented communities.

Your support is what allows us to tell these stories, bringing attention to the issues that are often overlooked. Without your contributions, these voices might not be heard.

Every dollar you give helps us continue to shine a light on these critical issues in the run up to the election and beyond

Donald Trump and Kamala Harris were reunited hours after their head-to-head presidential debate in Philadelphia as both attended a 9/11 memorial event at Ground Zero in New York City on Wednesday morning.

The Republican nominee was widely felt to have fallen apart on the ABC News debate stage, providing rambling answers on illegal immigration, abortion and the economy and taking the bait whenever he was goaded by Harris, notably when she mocked his “boring and exhausting” rallies.

The candidates had shared an unexpected handshake at the start of the night, with the Vice President introducing herself and catching the businessman off guard.

But when the contest got underway, Trump went off on wild but familiar tangents, rehashing a recently debunked claim about Haitian immigrants stealing and eating domestic pets in Springfield, Ohio, inviting widespread ridicule.

Harris, meanwhile, used her time to cycle through Trump’s legacy of racist attacks, professional failings and culpability for the Capitol riot.

Shortly after the combative, 90-minute encounter concluded, Trump was dealt a further blow when pop superstar Taylor Swift formally announced she is endorsing Harris and Tim Walz, labelling herself a “childless cat lady” in a rebuke to JD Vance.

Trump argues Harris was ‘beaten badly’

Trump lashed out on Truth Social on Wednesday, claiming that the Harris campaign wants another debate because she did poorly.

During the debate on Tuesday night, Harris repeatedly appeared to get under the former president’s skin, causing him to react angrily. Most observers dubbed her the winner.

Trump has said that he’s “not inclined” to do another debate.

“In the World of Boxing or UFC, when a Fighter gets beaten or knocked out, they get up and scream, ‘I DEMAND A REMATCH, I DEMAND A REMATCH!’ Well, it’s no different with a Debate. She was beaten badly last night. Every Poll has us WINNING, in one case, 92-8, so why would I do a Rematch?” Trump wrote on Truth Social without sharing what polls he was referring to.

Every time Trump was fact-checked during first presidential candidate debate

The former president was quickly slapped down by moderator David Muir after each false claim during the event in Philadelphia.

As Mr Trump spoke, the vice president looked in disbelief at him before laughing.

In one of the more bizarre moments of the debate, Mr Trump claimed that immigrants in Ohio are abducting pets and eating them.

He also said that Tim Walz has said “execution after birth is OK”, as well as further false claims about the 2020 election.

Trump says Taylor Swift will ‘pay a price’ for her Kamala Harris endorsement

“I was not a Taylor Swift fan,” he said.

“It was just a question of time. She couldn’t possibly endorse Biden… But she’s a very liberal person. She seems to always endorse a Democrat, and she’ll probably pay a price for it in the marketplace.”
