This Is Ed Begley Jr.’s All-Time Favorite ‘Arrested Development’ Joke

Ed Begley Jr. found his Arrested Development appearances to be just as funny as the audience did, so the fact that he’s still answering questions about Stan Sitwell all these years later doesn’t raise his eyebrows.

In the entertainment industry, there is a special respect paid to the most prolific “That Guy” actors who specialize in supporting roles that may not earn them the paychecks of the main cast, but create the most memorable moments for the fans nevertheless. While Begley has had plenty of opportunities to be the star, he is still an undeniable selection for the That Guy Mount Rushmore, seeing as many contemporary comedy fans are likely to know him as “that guy” on Better Call SaulArrested Development or all of Christopher Guest’s best movies.

On Arrested Development, Begley played the affable alopecian Stan Sitwell, the bitter business rival of George Bluth and the leaver of many a fake eyebrow in bowls of candy beans. During a recent Reddit AMA, one Arrested Development fan asked Begley to recount his favorite moment from the making of the show, and he recalled the visual gag that made both him and Will Arnett break like the binding on his wig.

“My favorite memory: Will Arnett hugs Ed as per the stage direction in one of the scenes, and his eyebrow sticks to some part of his body/wardrobe,” Begley wrote. “We both fought like Marines to keep it together. When they yelled cut, we exploded with tears of laughter.”

In the Arrested Development Season Two episode “Switch Hitter,” Sitwell recruits the Bluth Companys then-acting president George Oscar “Gob” Bluth to join Sitwell Housing, and Michael Bluth helps his brother keep the job by feeding him ideas while their father seeks to sabotage the partnership. George Bluth believes that Sitwell only wants Gob at his company to help him win the annual Bluth-Sitwell softball game, but upon Gob realizing that his new boss actually values his contributions (well, Michaels contributions), Gob has a change of heart as he peels Stans eyebrow away from his cheek, giving it a tender kiss before smashing a ball to center field.

Of course, the fatherly-boss-and-childlike-employee relationship doesnt last forever, as Gobs first original idea eventually gets him fired when he tries to sell Sitwell on a new name for his singles-only housing development that marks one of the other funniest moments in Begleys time working with Arnett on Arrested Development. However, just like Begley himself, Sitwell liked a hairy hug more than he cared for “Fuck City.”
