The Librarians: The Next Chapter Season 1 Episode 3 Excels With Timeless Love Story and Ambiguous Ending

In recent years, we’ve had countless reboots and sequels of beloved series, so I was definitely on the fence about The Librarians: The Next Chapter.

Thankfully, the series is moving along swimmingly, with The Librarians: The Next Chapter Season 1 Episode 3 continuing the impressive momentum set by the first two episodes.

The series has been crafted to appease original fans and usher in a new era for the franchise. What more could we ask for?

Getting the cases of the week right is a significant hurdle for any series with procedural elements, but the episode showcased that the creatives have many cool new elements to keep viewers entertained.

A Trip to the Past Changes The Librarians: The Next Chapter

Everything to do with the train, and the constant reliving of a fateful journey from decades ago, was handled very well.

It’s rare to connect with characters in such a short time, but Bella and Nikolaj’s tragic story was intriguing and helped keep the many layers of the mystery moving forward.

I’ve never been a fan of time loops in any medium because more often than not, they become tiresome before the inevitable resolution.

But this was a well-paced hour of TV as we learned everything we needed to know about Bella, her plight, and why the train was back and hurtling towards what could have been a demise for everyone on board.

Bella had a storied past, and despite the loss of Nikolaj, her sunny outlook on life never changed. Deep down, she struggled with her actions in the years since falling off the train.

Sadly, she never got to live a life of happiness with Nikolaj, but at least she got to return to the scene and find a way to take down the man who changed her life forever.

Her reservations about revisiting the past were warranted because I’m sure she was thinking about how she’d feel if the mission was a disaster.

Bella’s personality meshed well with the rest of the team, so it was great that she had the opportunity to spend time with all of our new librarians.

Bella Should Return for More Episodes

She had an impact on everyone, but it seems that her words hit Vikram the most, if the final scene is anything to go by.

The Librarians: The Next Chapter Season 1 has showcased Vikram as a man who was pushed 200 years into the future, and despite his witty jokes, he struggles with the gravity of losing everyone he loves.

The cliffhanger ending of him with one of the hands of time certainly indicates that he’s considering messing with time to be reunited with Anya and potentially others.

Seeing Bella reunite with Nikolaj, even for a bittersweet final encounter, likely rubbed off on him, and he’s thinking about the possibilities here.

The sad part is that after seeing Charlie’s devotion to following the rules, it’s inevitable that the series is setting up a power struggle of sorts between the librarian and the in-training guardian.

If Charlie gets wind of Vikram toying with the idea of going back in time without it being tied to a mission, she’ll probably turn to Jacob for assistance.

I can’t believe Charlie was the character that made me question her motivations the most, and now, she’s blossoming into one of the show’s best characters.

She puts on this fearless front when handling enemies, but she’s harboring a wealth of regret for her actions and feels like this could be her final chance to prove herself to her bosses.

If she steps out of line or doesn’t report any misuse of magic, she’ll be worried about the potential of losing her job for good.

Her story about how she became a guardian is still sketchy, so I hope we get a flashback episode that delves into more specifics.

Can Charlie Fit in With the Rest of the Team?

The episode also showcased Charlie as someone eager to fit in with the team, but nothing bonds people like a brush with death, so perhaps these missions will continue to bring everyone together.

Lysa is also a great character, but I find it hard to believe that she waited this long to question anything about the painting.

It’s only natural she’d have questions about it, but Vikram is the type of person to tell people what they need to know to carry out their missions.

As a result, it’s surprising he didn’t mention Anya or her connection to Lysa, because they’re dead ringers.

If Vikram was that upset to talk about it, how could he work with Lysa without being constantly reminded of his ex?

Maybe he’s just being polite because we’re seeing that he’s struggling behind the scenes.

“And the Ghost Train” was another near-perfect installment of this sequel to The Librarians. The storylines are all moving in exciting directions, and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
