The Lawyer May Be ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s New Rickety Cricket, Latest Teaser Hints

It may have taken nine years and six seasons, but we now finally know what The Lawyer has been up to during his long hiatus from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia: nursing his wounds after being brutally attacked by Royal McPoyle, Pappy McPoyle’s pet bird, during the “Trial of the Century.”

In a newly released clip teasing Always Sunny’s upcoming episode, “Mac and Dennis Become EMTs,” fans finally caught a glimpse of what The Gang’s unwitting attorney of choice has been up to since the explosive McPoyle v. Ponderosa court case, revealing that he still hasn’t fully recovered after getting his eye gouged out by the family’s Poconos swallow nearly a decade earlier.

“It’s not a getup, it’s an eye patch,” The Lawyer snapped at The Gang’s resident Trash Man, Frank Reynolds when pressed about his new eye accessory. “From when I was attacked by a bird.”

Despite witnessing the attack unfold in person, Frank had clearly spent too much of the past 10 years in “Frankenstein” mode to remember the ultra-gory, case-ending display.

“Gruesome!” Reynolds replied. “I wish I’d have seen that!”

“You did see it!” the lawyer barked back.

Marking one of the series’ most notable and permanent physical injuries since all of Rickety Cricket’s various burns, scars and ailments — a trend we sure as hell hope doesn’t continue, as much as the man formerly known as Matthew Mara would probably love a pal — several fans were happy to see The Lawyer regardless of his decreased number of eyes.

“I’m to remember every man I’ve seen have his eye ripped out by a bird?” joked one fan, while others offered all-caps expressions of appreciation. “FINALLY A REAPPEARANCEEE,” they wrote, adding a few extra Es for emphasis.

“THE LAWYER IS BACK,” celebrated another.

But amid all the fanfare, and our own concern for The Lawyer’s well-being, it still could be worse: At least he didn’t quit law to be with Dee Reynolds — for now.
