Frank Reynolds in ‘The Lord of the Rings’ Is Anything But A Botch Job

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Frank Reynolds looks so natural in Middle Earth that you’d think Danny DeVito was just a hobbit-sized Vijjo Morganstine.

One of the secrets to It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s sustained, record-breaking success is that, no matter what outlandish situation in which you drop any member of the Paddy’s Pub Gang, they will inevitably manage to make the absolute worst of it. Much like the rats in the basement, The Gang has somehow managed to survive the most fantastically dangerous situations and continued to spread their filth, but could they endure the evil that does not sleep, watched by a lidless eye wreathed in flame?

Well, according to the masterfully devised fan mash-up “Frank Reynolds in Middle-Earth (It’s Always Sunny in Middle-Earth)” by expert video editor Your_Kryponite7, The Enemy is no match for The Warthog:

Seriously, I cant get over how good some of these edits are — like when the scene cuts back to the confused faces of the Shirelings while Frank is singing his fittingly fantasy-themed song “The Troll Toll,” or when Frodo rushes in to follow Frank toward anonymous sex even though he definitely doesnt know the password (its ooooorgyyyyy).

Fans of both It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and The Lord of the Rings would have to agree that, if Frank and his guns were suddenly dropped into Middle Earth at the end of the Third Age, hed somehow manage to create headaches for both the Fellowship of the Ring and for Sauron himself, all while staying bizarre and neutral, like some foul-mouthed beer-gargling Tom Bombadil.

Honestly, the perfection of Your_Kryponite7s edit makes me wonder why DeVito, the legend that he is, was never offered a role in the original Lord of the Rings trilogy, especially considering that, standing at 4-foot-10, hes roughly the size of half of the franchises characters. Maybe, in some alternate dimension, theres a version of Peter Jacksons film franchise that features DeVito playing Bilbo Baggins — and, in this alternate reality, we all know who would be a shoe-in for Aragorn:
