‘Spider-Noir’ Showrunner Oren Uziel Signs With UTA

EXCLUSIVE: UTA has signed writer, director, producer, and showrunner Oren Uziel for representation in all areas.

Currently, Uziel is serving as writer, executive producer, and showrunner of Spider-Noir, the highly anticipated live-action comic book series for MGM+. Produced alongside Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Amy Pascal, the show has Nicolas Cage reprising his role as Spider-Man Noir, a gritty, 1930s-era superhero detective, from the Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Most recently for film, Uziel co-wrote the screenplay for The Lost City, a romantic adventure-comedy starring Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum, which grossed over $192 million worldwide.

Uziel first garnered industry attention in 2009 with his original Black List script Shimmer Lake, which he ultimately helmed for Netflix in 2017, in his directorial debut. Known for its reverse chronological storytelling, the noir thriller stars Rainn Wilson, Wyatt Russell, Ron Livingston, and more.

Uziel’s subsequent script, Kitchen Sink, made the Black List in 2010 before going on to be produced by Sony as the cult horror-comedy Freaks of Nature. He then went on to co-write 22 Jump Street, starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, a critically acclaimed action-comedy sequel that grossed over $330 million worldwide.

Thus far in his career, Uziel has also written The Cloverfield Paradox (2018), a space-set thriller produced by J.J. Abrams that expanded the Cloverfield universe; contributed to the story of the 2021 Mortal Kombat reboot; and co-written psychological horror sequel Escape Room: Tournament of Champions. He’s managed by Britton Rizzio at Curate and repped for legal by David Fox of Myman Greenspan Fox.
