Sehwag dismayed by veteran’s intent

Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag did not mince any words while calling out Ravindra Jadeja’s struggles with the bat in IPL 2025. Playing at number 4, the all-rounder managed to score just 21 off 17 deliveries before he was sent packing. It is no secret that Jadeja has been struggling against spinners in IPL 2025 and on Friday, he was once again a victim of spin.

Sehwag flays Jadeja, CSK batters

Speaking on Cricbuzz, Sehwag opined that CSK batters were playing like as though they just wanted the tournament to get over. He pointed out that despite having a poor strike rate, Jadeja should have attempted to stick around in the middle instead of hurrying back.

“Their batters are wondering when will they get back home? When will the tournament end? At least one of them should have taken responsibility. Jadeja has got a useless strike rate, but at least try to stay out there till the 15th or 18th over. The rest of the batters can then play around him,” Sehwag said.

Further, Sehwag questioned the decision to send Sam Curran to bat at number 3. He noted that CSK could have instead played Brevis at that position. Incidentally, the game against SRH was Baby AB’s first for CSK and he finished as the side’s top-scorer with a 42-run knock.

“I can’t understand what Sam Curran is doing at No.3 in this line-up. He has played up the order for sure, he has batted No.4 in ILT20, and he has played that role intelligently. But, in this line-up, when you have Brevis, play him at No.3. Then Dube can come in next, followed by Jadeja, Sam Curran, and Deepak Hooda,” Sehwag added.

SRH beat CSK by 5 wickets to stay alive in the playoff race. Mendis and Nitish Reddy stitched together a half-century stand for 6th wicket to chase down 155 after Ishan Kishan scored 44.

CSK were bowled out for 154 as Harshal Patel bagged 4/28. Dewald Brevis was the star for CSK with 25-ball 42. Ayush Mhatre once again gave CSK a good start with 19-ball 30. However, as the other batters failed, CSK gave away that advantage.
