LSG held their nerve in a last-over thriller as Avesh Khan’s brilliance sealed a stunning two-run win over RR.
In the IPL 2025 Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjiv Goenka was overjoyed on Saturday after his team secured a thrilling two-run victory over Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Jaipur. Known for his passionate reactions during matches, Goenka couldn’t contain his excitement as LSG pulled off a nail-biting win, capturing a much-needed victory even as RR’s batting coach Vikram Rathour struggled to digest yet another close defeat.
Avesh Khan’s heroics
Following Mitchell Starc’s impressive performance for Delhi Capitals earlier vs RR, it was LSG pacer Avesh Khan who stepped up against Rajasthan. With RR cruising at 156/2 by the 17th over, needing just 25 runs from three overs, Avesh held his nerve in the death overs. He conceded only five runs in the 18th over and took crucial wickets, including stand-in skipper Riyan Parag and Yashasvi Jaiswal. In the final over, Avesh dismissed Shimron Hetmyer for 12 runs and gave away only six runs, ending with match-winning figures of 3/37.
Rajasthan’s heartbreak
Despite being in a strong position, Rajasthan Royals faced a heartbreaking loss, marking their fourth consecutive defeat and sixth in eight matches. Jaiswal continued his fantastic form with an impressive 74 off 52 balls, while 14-year-old debutant Vaibhav Suryavanshi stunned everyone with a quick 34 off 20 balls, showing a good show. Their partnership added 85 runs in a lively stand, but it wasn’t enough to secure a win.
Looking ahead
The Lucknow Super Giants look forward to their next match against Delhi Capitals on April 22 at home, hoping to build on their newfound momentum. Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals will seek redemption in their upcoming match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 24, aiming to turn around their current form.
