Sachin Sarjerao Khilari clinches silver and sets Asian record in shotput

Sachin Sarjerao Khilari won silver in the Men’s Shot Put-F46, setting a new Asian record with a 16.32-metre throw.

Sachin Sarejrao Khilri added another medal to India’s tally after winning the silver medal in the Men’s Shot Put-F46 on Wednesday at the Paris Paralympics. The shot-putter from Maharashtra recorded his best throw in his second attempt, which also set a new Asian record. He threw 16.32 metres in his second attempt. Greg Stewart from Canada clinched the gold medal with his season-best throw of 16.38 meters.

This silver brings India’s medal tally to 21. India currently holds 19th place in the medal table with three gold, eight silver, and ten bronze medals.

Yaseer and Rohit failed to win a medal

Other Indians in the competition, Mohammad Yaseer and Rohit Kumar, failed to finish in the top three. Yaseer made his best throw in his second attempt, recording14.21 metres. Rohit Kumar’s best attempt was 14.10 metres and finished 9th.

The medal quest continues

Sachin Sarjerao Khilari maintains his impressive medal streak in sports events. He won gold at the 2023 Asian Para Games, as well as at the World Championships in Paris 2023 and Kobe 2024. This time, at the Paralympics, he will have to settle for a silver medal.
