As Philadelphia’s ongoing municipal workers’ strike nears the one-week mark, several fans of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia have found themselves grappling with one question: What would The Gang be doing during these trying times?
Though the most likely answers consist of scheming, scamming and a whole lot of day drinking, some have recognized the essence of Paddy’s Pub in a now-viral clip depicting one local mom’s attempt at cashing in, charging residents “$25 a carload” to pick up their overflowing trash.
“Two hours + 3 houses = $100!!” TikToker Ava Loren captioned a clip detailing her scheme — one that several denounced as scabbing. “Trash is all around us!! TIME TO HUSTLE!!”

Screengrabs of Loren’s clip quickly made their way to Twitter, where users not only debated whether this mother-daughter sanitation team undermined the union’s efforts at a fair contract, but why, exactly, this premise sounded so familiar.
“This is literally, down to the letter, an Always Sunny episode,” Twitter user @boringstein wrote alongside an image taken from the video. The post was quickly deleted, but not before several others noticed @boringstein’s point. Her ploy is seemingly ripped straight from Season Eight’s “The Gang Recycles Their Trash.”
In the 2012 episode, which was yanked from Hulu due to its usage of brownface, Mac, Dennis and Charlie decide to grift their way through a citywide sanitation workers’ strike, offering to take folks’ garbage away in a limousine in exchange for some cold, hard cash.
Much like the gang, though, Loren and her daughter will likely need to pivot to a different side hustle once the strike concludes. That said, they can always sell gas door-to-door instead.
