Parramatta Eels vs St George Illawarra Dragons results, round 5, Gold Coast Titans vs Dolphins updates, latest news; Clint Gutherson scores a try; Darryl Brohmann’s grim Panthers call
Rugby league great Darryl Brohman has tipped acid on the Panthers after they crashed to their fourth defeat on the bounce last night, declaring they will not win a fifth premiership in a row and saying they may even miss the top eight.
The Panthers lost at home 22-18 to the Cowboys last night and have not won a game since beating the Sharks in Las Vegas in the opening round of the season.
“Penrith, my mighty Panthers, they’re falling off the perch,” Brohman said on 2GB’s The Continuous Call Team.
“They’ve lost four in a row. They could well be 0-5, you know? Cronulla could have easily beaten them in the first game in Vegas.
“At the moment it’s dark times for them.
“I think they miss the fullback a little bit more than what they might admit to, Dylan Edwards … They do miss him because he does a lot of hit-ups. He’s like [James] Tedesco. He’ll do a hit-up from the first tackle, he’ll do one on the fourth tackle. He just takes the pressure off the whole side and they miss him big time. With him back I think they will get back to their winning way.
“But I think, at the end of the day, after what’s happened to them with regards to players leaving and going to other clubs … I think it’s now catching up with them and I’m prepared to say I don’t think they can win the comp. They might not make the eight!”
