Oscars Will Stay With Its March 2026 Date, LA Marathon Will Reschedule

A logistical nightmare has been averted. Both the 2026 Academy Awards and the LA Marathon were scheduled for Sunday, March 15, but an agreement has been reached that now solves the problem.

LA Mayor Karen Bass announced that organizers of the Oscars, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and the LA Marathon, the McCourt Foundation, have agreed to a solution that allows both events to be held in March. The Oscars will keep its March 15 date, and the Marathon will shift to a different date in March 2026 that will be announced in the coming days. The marathon route typically runs past the Dolby Theatre on Hollywood Blvd., home of the Academy Awards.

In future years, the parties have agreed that the Marathon will take place on the third Sunday in March, Bass said.

The ASICS Los Angeles Marathon and the Academy Awards have also agreed to establish a partnership to promote each other’s events. but details of that agreement are not yet known.

After a well-received first time as Oscar host, Conan O’Brien will return as host of the 98th Academy Awards next year. Also returning are producers Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan, who will be back for a third consecutive year. Alongside them will be O’Brien’s partners Jeff Ross and Mike Sweeney, who will produce for the second time with the latter also writing.

“My mission is always to ensure that L.A.’s signature events are safe and successful for visitors and Angelenos to enjoy,” said Bass. “I’m pleased we were able to reach an agreement that sets up the LA Marathon and the Oscars to continue reflecting all that our city has to offer while establishing a long-term partnership to benefit the organizations for years to come.”
