NCIS: Tony & Ziva Sets Premiere Date — Will a Streaming-Only Run Hurt Its Chances of Success?

With the eradication of some of the best procedurals on the small screen over the last few years, it’s about time we were reintroduced to two of TV’s best characters.

NCIS: Tony & Ziva has been in the works for years, and we finally have a confirmed premiere date.

Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo will reunite on screen for the first time in years when their NCIS spinoff debuts on Thursday, September 4.

As previously reported, this series will be a streaming-exclusive on Paramount+, marking the first entry in the franchise not to air on CBS.

The decision has proven controversial among the NCIS fanbase, but perhaps the streaming platform was the only way to make this show feasible.

The NCIS: Tony & Ziva trailer showcased a globe-trotting adventure, which may have priced the series out of broadcast TV.

Can NCIS: Tony & Ziva Survive on Streaming?

It’s becoming increasingly complex to keep a show on the air, but Paramount+ is kicking off this spinoff with a three-episode launch, which should be enough to give viewers an indication of whether it’s a worthy entry in the 20+ years-long franchise.

I certainly had my reservations, with my train of thought being that too much time has passed since the last time they were on-screen together.

But the official trailer showcased something fresh and exciting for the NCIS universe.

I’m already loving the new life NCIS: Origins has brought, and now, it looks like the latest entry will be another winner.

While I still miss shows like NCIS: Hawai’i and NCIS: Los Angeles, taking the franchise to new heights is the name of the game nowadays.

“We’re beyond excited to finally share Tony and Ziva’s next chapter with the incredible fans around the world who never stopped believing this day would come,” said stars and executive producers Cote de Pablo and Michael Weatherly.

“Returning to these roles together on screen after more than a decade has been an unforgettable journey packed with lies, spies, danger, desire… and self-driving murder cars. (Don’t worry, that last one will make sense soon.) This is one wild ride you won’t want to miss, and as they say in Paris: Accrochez-vous bien! “

Will Tony & Ziva Make it Work?

NCIS: Tony & Ziva picks up after Ziva’s supposed death when Tony left the NCIS team to raise their daughter.

Years later, Ziva was discovered alive, leading her to complete one final mission with NCIS before she was reunited with Tony and their daughter in Paris.

Since then, and as seen in NCIS: TONY & ZIVA, Tony and Ziva have been raising their daughter, Tali, together.

When Tony’s security company is attacked, they must go on the run across Europe, try to figure out who is after them, and maybe even learn to trust each other again so they can finally have their unconventional happily ever after.

The cast is rounded out by Amita Suman, Maximilian Osinski, Lara Rossi, Isla Gie, Nassima Benchicou, Terence Maynard, Julian Ovenden, and James D’Arcy.
