Nationals Sports Bill 2025 Explained

The National Sports Bill 2025 will go a long way in India becoming a sporting powerhouse in the next decade.
So, after years of planning, the National Sports Governance Bill 2025 is up and ready, and could be implemented by August, which could be detrimental in India hosting the 2036 Olympics. The bill is set to be presented in the Parliament by sports minister, Manshukh Mandaviya, on Wednesday.
How does the National Sports Bill help?
- It becomes necessary to understand, what this bill bring in, and how does it really benefit the players, the bodies and the other stakeholders.
- One of the major focus of this bill is to give the sports bodies a free hand. Free from political pressure and interference. Meanwhile, they will be under one framework, but also enjoy their independent functioning.
- The new National Sports Bill will also ensure the establishment of a Sports Tribunal. That will be responsible to oversee and resolve the disputes between athletes, office-bearers and sports federations. The tribunal will also help to get fast resolutions.
- It also means that there would be athlete representation in the NSF’s (National Sports Federations), which in turn will bring great results from the athletes. Merit would also be ensured in all selection processes.
- Then, timely audits of the NSF’s will be conducted, to maintain a transparency in the funds used. There will also be improved clarity in governance roles, that could help India in bagging few high-profile events for hosting — and eventually, the 2036 Olympics as well.
- Much more involvement of players, ex-players and Sportspersons of Outstanding Merit in the NSF’s, and even formation of Athelete Committees in them. Perhaps the most important aspect of this bill will be to provide safe environment for the players — free from harassment of any kind, ensuring welfare of players.
- Firstly, the bill aligns with India’s ambitions of hosting some of the biggest events in the world. They have shown great interest in hosting the 2036 Olympics in Ahmedabad. Then, apart from that, it could go a long way in India’s dream of becoming a sports giant, and also finish in top 10 of the Olympics, in the next 10 years.
BCCI under the Sports Bill
As per India Today, the BCCI is also set to come under this bill. For now, the implications could be on the management side of the board. The age limit for the administrators is set to be increased from 70 to 75, which means, the current head could get an extension of five years.
