Natalie Portman Oscar Winner Gets 15th Anni Imax Release

Darren Aronofsky’s psychological thriller Black Swan, which delivered a Best Actress Oscar win to Natalie Portman for her portrayal of a mentally tortured NYC ballerina on the brink of fame, is getting the Imax treatment for its 15th anniversary re-relesae.

The movie will play in over 200 auditoriums in major cities on Aug. 21 and 24 for the first time ever in the large format.

Searchlight also released a brand-new trailer and poster today ahead of the film’s exclusive IMAX screenings. Plans for further celebrations of the film’s legacy will continue to be announced throughout the year.   

 Black Swan was nominated for five Oscars including Best Picture and Director for Aronofsky. The pic earned close to $107M stateside back when arthouse titles during Oscar season could truly breakout in a pre-streaming area, and a global total of $329.3M WW. The film also starred Mila Kunis, Vincent Cassel, Barbara Hershey, and Winona Ryder.  

Black Swan made its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival back in 2010, and went on to play Telluride and the Toronto International Film Festival. Kunis won the Marcelle Mastroianni Award for Best Young Actor or Actress. Portman also won Best Actress Drama at the Golden Globes, Best Female Leading Role at Screen Actors Guild. The film swept all four of its noms, winning at the Film Independent Spirits for Best Actress Portman, Best Feature, Best Director and Best Cinematography from Matthew Libatique.

Black Swan is Searchlight’s second highest grossing movie ever behind 2008 Best Picture Oscar winner Slumdog Millionaire which grossed $378M at the global box office.
