Uncle Barry is back for FUBAR Season 2, and the world is so much better for it.
Every CIA team needs a techie — the one who’s not always on the front lines but works behind the scenes to gather information and help facilitate missions. They’re every bit as important to the team, and Barry has proven himself to be invaluable.
The FUBAR team is in a bit of disarray when the second season begins, as their covers have been blown after the events of FUBAR Season 1, and Barry, alongside his peers, is heading into the season a little off-kilter.
Milan Carter returns as Barry for the brand new season, and the fan-favorite character will have a lot on his plate with work and his personal life.
While the audience discovered that his girlfriend, Tina, was a double agent at the end of the season, he and his team remain unaware.
With such a big secret out there, FUBAR Season 2 is set up to be quite an enjoyable and twisty ride, so we had to get some intel from Carter about what to expect from Barry and so much more.
Carter’s an absolute treat to chat with, as he’s always incredibly candid, and this conversation was a lot of fun as we broke down Barry’s season arc and got to know Carter a bit better.
When we get back into the second season, what can you tell us about how Barry’s doing? What kind of Barry are we going to see in FUBAR Season 2?
Season one ends with our identities being leaked, forcing us to go to a safe house. The only person who’s not at the wedding to accompany us to the safe house is the love of my life. Barry struggles a bit with being away from Tina for so long, and you get to see the emotional rollercoaster he’s on due to cabin fever.
So yeah, he has a lot of cabin fever, but like most spy shows, it wouldn’t be a great show if the whole season took place in the safe house. Every great spy has to escape at some point in time. So, Barry embarks on a journey to fight for his love.
At the heart of FUBAR is family. So, how will we see those family dynamics evolve and change, especially with you all trapped together at specific points, fighting something new, and all those different things?
Oh, man, it’s going to be bananas. I come from a large family. I have five older brothers, and if you put us all in one house for a week, we may not all be friends at the end of the day.
So what FUBAR creates is an interesting dynamic because everybody who is in the van at the end of that season has to live together for months on end, and it becomes very uncomfortable.
Relationship dynamics get blurred. Many people struggle because they often don’t get what they want and have to deal with things they dislike every day.
And you said you’re the baby. You have five older brothers?
Yes, I am the baby with five older brothers. I’m actually blessed. Three of my brothers are general contractors in Pennsylvania, so they flew out here to help me start fixing my house, but they could only do it for a week. So I have many other jobs that I have to finish that they all helped me start.
Are you treated like the baby?
In a sense, yes. I was the last one to mature athletically, so they always made me feel that way and made fun of me in many different ways. I’m also the skinniest of all my brothers.
They’re all D1 athletes, super football players, and I was just this skinny dude, and so they made a lot of fun of me, but they also took pride in protecting me, so I always felt safe.
That’s awesome. Love that.
Coming out of the first season, there is this big secret. And I’m sure you were in tune with fans’ reactions after the season. What was your favorite fan reaction to the season, or how people perceived Barry?
My favorite reaction to fans’ reaction would be how many people were in my DMs telling me, “Tina don’t love you. Tina don’t love you; leave her, man.” They took it seriously as if Milan had no idea that Tina was a spy.
The passion behind everybody rooting for Barry was amazing; it was great to know that they genuinely liked him and wanted to see him win and be happy.
That’s always an interesting thing with the fans because you’re not Barry, but they’re talking to you like you’re Barry.
That’s a fact. Even my own family does it. I go to the family reunion, “And you know Tina’s not for you, right? You do know this.” Like, “Yeah, I’m pretty aware. Pretty aware. Thank you.”
What is a season two dynamic for Barry that you’re excited for audiences to see? Perhaps a new team-up or something new for Barry that we’ll get to see.
You get to see my technical analysis because I am in the house. I embody the ‘guy in the chair’ moments, and so I get to nerd out and geek out, talking about facts that even I didn’t know about, whether it’s turbines or how fast things move, and satellites.
It’s a great experience to dig deep into the nerdiness of Barry. I get to be a full-blown blerd this season. Black nerds in the house.
Did you do a lot of research for this role?
I did research as it came. To research a CIA agent, it’s so much, right? So, of course, you can research where Langley is, where all the basic things of what it means to be an agent, but you never know what mission you’re going on.
And per each mission, you have to really dig in. So if it’s about a battleship, now you got to go deep dive into battleships and all the turbines that may exist with them, or if it’s something that takes place on Mars, each thing, or whether it’s a Russian spy, whether it’s a Saudi Arabian spy or something like that.
Each thing has its own grouping. And then, once you know what grouping you’re in, I deep dive 100% and spend at least three to four hours a day just diving in and trying to understand what I’m talking about because if I don’t, I’d be lost.
One of the best things about season two of a show is that you get to see the show grow. Season one is about establishing characters, setting the hook, and developing the narrative. With the second season, you get to expand, raise the stakes, everything like that.
So, how does FUBAR Season 2 raise the stakes, and what are you looking forward to audiences seeing this time around?
Oh man, we really raised the bar for the funny this season. When we all got to set last season, we all were like, “What kind of show was this? What genre? Is this a comedy?” I have no idea what we’re doing.
But from day one, and this is like, “oh, we’re punching up the funny, we are going to hit him in the jugular with these jokes.” It explores the humor, but at the same time, it really underlines the family and that we can’t fix the world if we can’t work together and fix our relationships.
Oh, that’s a nice way of describing it. I appreciate that you guys will have this super serious action piece. Something edge of your seat, and then there’s just this joke that hits right in the middle of it.
Yep. It’s like it’s coming. You might not see it, but it’s coming.
Yeah, that makes it a lot of fun. I want to dive more into Barry and Tina. When you were reading the scripts and everything like that, did you think Barry had no idea about Tina?
I honestly think Barry has no idea that Tina is a spy, one because I’ve been Barry. I always wore my heart on my sleeve, and you see what you want to see. When you really love somebody, you focus on all the good things.
It is a choice to focus on the things that are questionable, but if the pluses are so strong, that’s the 80/20 rule. If it’s 20% bad, I’m not going to focus on that 20%. I got this 80% right in front of me, and it’s everything I ever dreamed of.
So Barry, being an orphan and not really having anyone to call his own, finally has something. The last thing that I would think about, the last thing that Barry’s thinking about, is that something is going to be wrong. It’s like, for the first time, I got love, and I deserve it.
What can you tease about just how that relationship is going to ebb and flow this season?
What I’ll tease is that you could text somebody, and things get lost in translation. You could call somebody on the phone, and things can get lost in translation. So, when it comes to Barry and Tina not being face-to-face, a few things get lost in translation, and it doesn’t always turn out the way Barry wants it to.
But also, as Milan, I think there’s always a silver lining in everything.
Okay. I like the tease. The last time we spoke was before FUBAR Season 1, and I asked you then what you learned about yourself through the audition process. But I want to know, what’s something new that you learned about Barry now that you’re two seasons into stepping into his shoes?
I think Barry is a lot stronger than I thought. One of the early notes I got is that he had to be less cool. And when I think of the opposite of cool, I think of scaredy-cats. I think of punks. I think of people who don’t step up to the plate.
Barry isn’t afraid to step up to the plate, to put his life on the line whenever it calls for it. And that’s noble. I think, ultimately, Barry is cool. I would love to have a friend like Barry in my life who always puts his friends and family first and shows up for them no matter what.
What was a fun filming memory that you have from Season 2?
Let me try not to give it away. So, I got to hang from a helicopter in Season 1. And it was a lot of stunt training for that. This year, I got to top my stunt experience, and the amount of training that I got to do was amazing. I spent four or five days working with the harnesses and different things to get my body ready.
I was also in the gym every day to make sure I was physically fit. So, in the middle of the season, Barry gets to have an amazing experience. I might say it’s out of this world, and it will be something I’ll never forget. And I really am a guy who does my stunts.

Ooh. In Season 2 of FUBAR, Barry will turn the bleep up.
