Mikko Rantanen expected to join Finland for 4 Nations Face-Off despite injury

A Finland team already battered by injury appears to have avoided another one.

Rantanen missed the Carolina Hurricanes’ game on Saturday night with a lower-body injury after he was struck by a puck during his new team’s previous contest.

The 28-year-old has recorded two points (one goal and one assist) in six games since he was acquired from the Colorado Avalanche in a three-team deal that also involved the Chicago Blackhawks.

He registered 64 points (25 goals and 39 assists) in 49 games with the Avalanche before the deal.

Rantanen topped the 100-point plateau during the previous two seasons.

Finland has already lost three defencemen to injury, including presumed No. 1 Miro Heiskanen.

It opens play at the 4 Nations on Thursday against the U.S.
