Kevin Bacon, Kyra Sedgwick enlist their real kids in horror movie

Actors Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick will team up for the upcoming comedy thriller, Family Movie. Appropriately enough, their kids will join them.

While Bacon and Sedgwick, who married in 1988, will direct and star, Travis, 35, and Sosie, 32, will costar. All four will produce.

“As cameras roll on their next low-budget slasher,” the official synopsis reads, “an eclectic but tight knit family of filmmakers suddenly find themselves in a real-life horror movie when a body turns up on set. As the production spirals comically out of control, they realize the only solution to keep filming is to cover up the murder, by any means necessary.”

Both of the younger Bacons have been working in film. Travis has primarily composed music for movies such as 2022’s Space Oddity, which was directed by Sedgwick and costarred the elder Bacon, Carrie Preston, Alfre Woodard, and Simon Helgberg.

As for Sosie, she starred in several episodes of HBO’s limited series Mare of Easttown and as the main character in the terrifying 2022 movie Smile.

The star of Footloose, Apollo 13, and MaXXXine has previously noted that his family has “a horror tradition.” Bacon himself has starred in some serious spine-tinglers, such as Tremors, Flatliners, and Stir of Echoes.

“We definitely have a fondness for it in our family,” he told The Hollywood Reporter in October 2022. “I wonder what it is, specifically. I think that for an actor, you’re looking for things that have high stakes — and that’s what horror gives you. It’s always going to be a radical life-or-death situation.”

In the same interview, he gave his daughter a rave review for her performance in Smile.

“She’s great in the movie. She’s fantastic,” Bacon said. “We didn’t know she was really interested in pursuing any kind of an acting career. But when she finally, in her early 20s, decided that this is what she wanted to do, she dropped out of college and moved to L.A. and really started doing all the right stuff. Pounding the pavement, doing self-tape after self-tape, and studying.”

The movie does not yet have a release date.
