Kate Winslet wouldn’t cover her belly rolls for new film ‘Lee’
For her movie Lee, actress Kate Winslet stopped working out. She felt that the soft look was right for her character, Vogue model–turned–war correspondent Elizabeth “Lee” Miller.
So, no, the Titanic star was not about covering up her mid-section.
“There’s a bit where Lee’s sitting on a bench in a bikini,” Winslet told Harper’s Bazaar UK for its September issue cover story published Tuesday, “and one of the crew came up between takes and said: ‘You might want to sit up straighter.’ So you can’t see my belly rolls? Not on your life! It was deliberate, you know?”
When Winslet was asked if she worries about looking less-than-perfect in a project, her answer was an emphatic “no.”
“The opposite,” she said. “I take pride in it because it is my life on my face, and that matters. It wouldn’t occur to me to cover that up.”
Winslet has long been outspoken about the way she was body shamed as a young actress. But she’s past that now.

In September, she told Vogue that she was “consistently told I was the wrong shape” back then.
Now 48, the Titanic refuses to listen to such talk.
“I think people know better than to say, ‘You might wanna do something about those wrinkles,'” the Oscar winner said in the new interview. “I’m more comfortable in myself as each year passes. It enables me to allow the opinions of others to evaporate.”
Lee, which had film festival screenings beginning last fall, will be released in U.S. theaters on September 27.
