Destroying what’s left of the social safety net and the nation’s finances in one fell swoop is more than just sadistic, myopic and catastrophic — it’s downright impressive.
President Donald Trump and the Republican Party just agreed to kick millions of Americans off of Medicaid and food-assistance programs while simultaneously inflating the federal government’s budget deficit by trillions of dollars. With the passage of The One Big Beautiful Bill Act, 12 million Americans are now at risk of losing their health coverage and three million schoolchildren will lose their lunches while the ultra rich reap even greater benefits and tax cuts from our already broken system, all while defense spending skyrockets and the country’s coffers drain.

The congressional budget office estimates that the Big Beautiful Bill will increase the country’s deficit by $3.4 trillion despite the massive, literally murderous cuts to Medicaid and other social programs, which, as The Daily Show host Jon Stewart pointed out tonight, is as unlikely an achievement as putting on 50 pounds while dropping a grand a month on semaglutide injections:
After going over the massive cuts to social programs, Stewart gawked at the $3.4 trillion figure projected for the government’s ballooning deficit as a result of the act, yelling, “You somehow managed to severely cut the safety net and expand the deficit! That’s impressive! That’s one of those, ‘Hey man, how’d you gain all that weight?’ ‘Ozempic!’”
“That’s something that’s hard to do!” Stewart exclaimed. “I’m on Ozempic, and now, I’m really f***ing fat!”
To offset the savings from such drastic cuts and further deepen the deficit, Trump and the Republican Party passed hyperbolic funding measures for immigration and border control and, of course, obscene tax breaks to the wealthy in the Big Beautiful Bill, with an extra $150 billion allotted for ICE. “Are you telling me, all this crazy shit that has been happening is broke ICE? Is that what you’re saying?!?!” Stewart asked.
But for all the cut social programs, paramilitary budgeting and $4 trillion in tax cuts for the rich contained in the Big Beautiful Bill, at least our opposition party is putting up the best fight they can muster — which is none at all. Stewart mocked the embarrassing victory lap that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer took after striking the name off of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. “Oh shit, no you didn’t!” Stewart said to the senator from New York. “Seriously, tell me you didn’t just brag about changing nothing about the bill but its name.”
“Are you trying to suck?” Stewart asked Schumer.
Many future generations of Americans will be forced to pay for the kleptocratic Republican Party’s brazen raid of our country’s finances, but, hey, at least we got a picture of House of Representatives Minority leader Hakeem Jeffries holding a baseball bat while trying desperately to look tough under overhead lighting. Said Stewart of Jeffries’ response to the ongoing disaster, “Hakeem Jeffries answered with imagery, imagery that sends a clear message to Republicans: that Hakeem Jeffries and the Democrats are waiting for their moms to pick them up from T-ball!”
