JAWS Turns 50 — and NBC Wants You Back in the Water

Steven Spielberg’s Jaws first hit theaters on June 20, 1975, and changed summer movies forever.

It gave us the original blockbuster, an unforgettable score, and at least three generations of people afraid to go back in the ocean.

Fifty years later, it’s still the king of shark movies — and NBC is throwing it the celebration it deserves.

Here’s what’s happening:

  • On Friday, June 20 at 8/7c, NBC is airing a special three-hour presentation of Jaws with a brand-new introduction from Spielberg himself.
  • Starting June 15, Peacock is exclusively streaming all four Jaws films (yes, even the bonkers ones) and Spielberg’s intro, along with a full Jaws collection.
  • And for superfans? A new 50th Anniversary Edition drops June 17 on 4K, Blu-ray, and Digital — including a never-before-seen documentary, Jaws @ 50: The Definitive Inside Story.

All this has me thinking… remember when we floated the idea of watching 4th of July movies together?

This could be our kickoff! Jaws is practically patriotic at this point — a summer ritual with explosions, heroes, and a giant menace lurking beneath the surface.

So what do you say?

Watch with us on June 20, then come chat about it — the shark, the score, the scars (“you got that beat!”), and everything in between.

If it goes well, we’ll keep the movie nights rolling through the holiday — Independence Day, The Sandlot, Captain America, you name it.

Just good, low-commitment fun with people who love a good story.
