‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ Might Finally Parody ‘The Bear’

It’s about time that It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia finally tackled The Bear. After this, Mac should move on to an otter.

In the time since Rob McElhenney, Glenn Howerton, Charlie Day and the writing staff last crafted a season of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, their network heads at FX found a second tentpole TV show to bolster the channel’s impressive library. The Bear, created by Christopher Storer for FX on Hulu, is the breakout hit and critical darling of the 2020s, as it began raking in all those elusive comedy Emmys in just its first season back in 2022. Now, after nearly two decades of being FX’s favorite comedy series, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has some company in the spotlight, but Storer and his team might not be prepared to share the mountaintop with a power bottom.

Today, FX released the official It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 17 trailer, which featured a heated exchange between Charlie and Dee that makes me think that McElhenney and his team were taking notes and copying some recipes when Carmy was in the kitchen.

At around the 50-second mark of the above teaser, we see Charlie and Dee arguing in the back of a (possibly stolen) ambulance that seems to have been converted into some kind of mobile kitchen, complete with the clothesline of order tickets that FX viewers are used to seeing on their other favorite show.

The repeated screams of “Thank you what?!?!” and “Thank you Chef!!!” further suggest the possibility that Charlie may be tuning in to The Bear and trying to copy its most famous rule of kitchen decorum. While Paddys Pub may not be a licensed restaurant — Carmines: A Place for Steaks definitely isnt either — it certainly appears that It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 17 will feature Charlie trying to graduate from the janitor of a bar to the head chef of a “food truck,” probably at the expense of Dennis and Macs scheme in the upcoming episode “Mac and Dennis Become EMTs.”

Presumably, the parody aspect of Charlies imitation of The Bear will be lighthearted and taken in good faith by the other FX mega-hit. But, if not, Im sure the Gang would be glad to squash some beef with The Beef. Bring your own nose clams.
