Barry Keoghan has been rumored to be starring in a Joker series, but that is simply not true.

The 32-year-old made a cameo as “Unseen Arkham Prisoner,” aka the Joker, in a deleted scene from Robert Pattinson‘s The Batman movie, which released in 2022.

Rumors circulated online this past week that he would reprise the role in his own spinoff series, which would be set between The Batman II and The Batman III, and he would make an appearance in the second movie.

DC Co-CEO James Gunn returned to social media during some free time from working on the upcoming second season of The Peacemaker and set the record straight.

“Turn on threads and everyone is asking me about this. No there is absolutely no truth to this. A Joker series is not being discussed nor has even come up at this time. Sorry,” he wrote on Threads.

Barry‘s future in the DCEU (DC Extended Universe) is currently unconfirmed, but some think he is returning in The Batman II based on an interview response he gave.

After The Batman was released, director Matt Reeves stated he’s not sure if or when Barry would return after his deleted scene appearance.

“It’s not one of those end credits Marvel or DC scenes where it’s going, like, ‘Hey, here’s the next movie!’ In fact, I have no idea when or if we would return to that character in the movies,” he told Variety.
