Is Apple TV+ The Best Place to Stream Comedy TV Right Now?

The 2025 Emmy nominations were announced today, and with them came plenty of rage-worthy snubsThe Bear getting comedy noms again and an unsurprising clean sweep from Severance. But while Apple TV+’s crown jewel might be its Sunday-scaries-drama (which picked up 27 nominations), it was far from the only show on the streaming service that received recognition.

The Studio, Apple’s cameo-driven Hollywood comedy, picked up a whopping 23 nominations, tying with Mike White’s murder drama The White Lotus. Meanwhile, Shrinking earned an Outstanding Comedy nomination, a Best Actor in a Comedy nomination for Jason Segel, a Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy nominations for both Harrison Ford and Michael Urie and a Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Jessica Williams.

With two comedy series in the running for Best Comedy series, there’s already an argument to be made to sign up. But while Shrinking and The Studio are picking up awards season chatter, that’s not all the platform has to offer. The newly debuted Stick stars Owen Wilson as a washed-up-golfer-turned-coach in a hopeful and goofy 30-minute sitcom. There’s the feel-good sports comedy, Ted Lasso, which won its own batch of Emmys already. Vince Vaughn plays a crockety old detective perfectly in Bad MonkeyIt’s Always Sunny’s Rob McElhenney stars in Mythic Questand SNL alum Maya Rudolph plays a billionaire trying to find her heart in Loot.

That’s really just scratching the surface, too. Comedy legends across Hollywood have flocked to make their projects with Apple TV — which has been bankrolling them with blank checks. According to a March 2025 report, Apple has spent about $4.5 billion on content last year, down from a few consecutive years of spending about $5 billion. And though the studio still hasn’t recouped all of that money (it’s losing about a billion dollars per year), there’s no indication of slowing down. The biggest point for Apple is that it’s investing in original content — you can’t watch old episodes of Seinfeld on the platform, but you can guarantee you’ll get new sitcom concepts a few times a year.

While it isn’t the most Emmy-nominated of the bunch (HBO’s programming received 179 nominations, closely followed by The Warner Bros. Discovery network with 142, and Netflix in third with 121), Apple’s 79 nominations are worth considering. Especially as most of those nominations were for Severance and The Studio.

And so, if you’re looking to quit watching re-runs of great comedies from the past, are looking for something new to add into your rotation or just really want to spend $10 more every single month, maybe look at Apple TV.
