India miss out on world record in IND vs NZ Champions Trophy 2025 match
India missed out on an opportunity to break a unique record in their match against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy 2025.
You may have heard the phrase “blessing in disguise,” but the opposite happened to India in their match against New Zealand in Champions Trophy. Despite bundling out the Kiwis within 45.3 overs, India missed the chance to break a national record. Had they bowled a few more overs with spinners at the Dubai International Stadium, they could have achieved this feat.
They might have clinched a unique record for bowling the highest number of overs by spinners in an ODI game.
Most spin overs bowled by a team in men’s ODIs
Sri Lanka tops the list with 44 overs bowled by spinners in an ODI match, while India bowled 41.3 overs with their spinners against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy game. India needed just 3.3 more overs to level the record and one additional over to break it.
They had four spinners in their side, with Kuldeep Yadav having three balls remaining and Ravindra Jadeja having two more overs to bowl. India could have also introduced a part-time spinner like Rohit Sharma, and the record would have been broken. Apart from them, Varun Chakravarty and Axar Patel completed their 10 overs kota. Chakravarty took most five wickets in the game.
