I Don’t Know Whether To Be Heartbroken Or Thrilled By Days of Our Lives Spoilers For The Week Of 6-02-25

This one’s going to be an emotional roller coaster.

I’m not sure how I feel about Days of Our Lives spoilers for the week of 6-02-25.

It’s the week we all dreaded — John’s death — and also the week of several highly anticipated returns, especially one miraculously healed Bo Brady.

John’s Death Is No Surprise (to Viewers, Anyway), But That Doesn’t Make It Hurt Less

I know I’ve been saying it for weeks, but John’s death sucks even if it was unavoidable.

The cast and crew were holding out hope that Drake Hogestyn would somehow have a miraculous enough recovery to return to work, which is why John’s death story took place over several months.

  • Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 5 Episode 8 Delivers A Solid, If Typical, Case, But Please Tell Us This Character Isn’t Dying Soon
  • Overcompensating and the Chaotic Truth of Being Queer in College

As we all know, it didn’t happen that way. Drake Hogestyn passed away from pancreatic cancer in September, most likely as these final scenes were being filmed.

And now, nine months later, soap life catches up with the real world, and John will pass away two episodes after it seemed like he was making a full recovery.

These scenes will hurt.

The tributes last week were all so beautiful, but part of me wishes that the writers had sent John to a burn rehab permanently instead of having him die so that I could pretend there’s a universe where John Black is still alive.

John’s Death Airs June 3, 2025

For those who want to mourn, or those who can’t take this and want to stay away, John’s death scenes will air on June 3 (Tuesday), after a day in which Steve and Kayla reminisce.

Marlena will spend Monday with John as well, presumably as he is slipping away.

It seems ridiculous to say that I’m looking forward to Steve and Kayla’s trip down memory lane.

I love all of these flashbacks. Some of them bring me back to childhood — I started watching shortly after John began airing in 1986 — while others I’ve never experienced before.

Steve and Kayla are the perfect couple to help usher in John’s exit.

Steve was John’s closest friend, especially in recent years (though we won’t talk about that stupid story where John went along with an ISA plan to poison Steve.)

Kayla considered John family.

Hopefully, these reminiscences will tell the story of John’s life in Salem.

I’m curious as to how they explain John’s death, even though it doesn’t really matter. Dead is dead, but John was making a miraculous turnaround as of this past Friday.

Of course, in real life, sometimes people who are near death rally shortly before they pass away, making it appear they are on the mend, but John’s test results didn’t support that kind of fake recovery.

It was absolutely the right choice for the writers to have John appear to get his miracle. That way, if Hogestyn had recovered, he could have come back — and since he didn’t, it’ll be doubly devastating for John’s family when he passes away just as they thought he was out of the woods.

Marlena’s Grief Will Be Well-Done (And Maybe Julie and Maggie Will Support Her)

In the last few years, we have lost too many Days of Our Lives legends.

John Aniston, Bill Hayes, and now Drake Hogestyn.

Love this show? We do too — and we want to keep writing about it.
Your comment or share can help make sure we get to. That’s the magic of supporting indie media.

That will undoubtedly be reflected in Marlena’s grief story after John passes away. She is now the third woman to face life as a widow after being half of a supercouple for many years.

The promo video has Marlena saying that she needs to learn how to live a life alone now that John is gone.

This is the kind of strong story that Deidre Hall will do amazing work on.

Hopefully, though, Marlena realizes that she isn’t completely alone. She has her family — and that includes Julie and Maggie.

Julie and Marlena should be supporting each other. It wasn’t that long ago that Julie went through a deep depression after Doug died, so she knows exactly what Marlena is struggling with.

This is the first mental health story that the new writers will tackle, so I’m eager to find out how they handle it — hopefully better than previous writing regimes have done.

Days of Our Lives Spoilers for the Week of 6-02-25 Promise More Returns

More family will be coming to mourn John. Notably, Jack and Jennifer will return during the week of 6-02-25.

And yes, as far as I know, that’s Melissa Reeves’ version of Jennifer.

Jennifer will be on hand to comfort Marlena, but she has to be who she is — equal parts supportive and judgmental.

Not of Marlena, but of Marlena’s assistant.

Jennifer was the one who realized something wasn’t right when Cat was pretending to be Abigail, so she has no use for her now and won’t be happy that Chad and Cat are going on a date.

Hopefully, Jennifer will stay longer than she did when Doug died.

She and Jack left Salem almost immediately after his funeral, which contributed to Julie’s depression.

I also hope Jack and Jennifer will share scenes with JJ.

He always gets the short end of the stick, and previous writing teams have often treated him like he’s barely part of the family.

The Biggest Miracle Comes On The Heels of John’s Death

Bo and Hope’s story is why I said this week would be an emotional roller coaster.

Just as John dies, Bo gets his miracle and makes a full recovery, or at least enough of one that he’s out of the hospital.

This is a gut punch despite being exciting. The story began with everyone praying for Bo and expecting John to come home, and will end with Bo getting his miracle while John passes away.

Still, I can’t wait for Bo and Hope’s reunion, especially because they will share it with Bo’s grandchildren.

Ciara isn’t my favorite character — they changed her personality too much for me after making her a snarky little girl — but I always love it when we meet new members of the family for the first time, and her kids meeting Grandpa Bo will be emotional.
