When will Angelo Mathews play his retirement Test match for Sri Lanka?
Bangladesh will tour Sri Lanka for a two-game Test series, with the first being the retirement red-ball game for Angelo Mathews.
A storied chapter in Sri Lankan cricket is set to close as Angelo Mathews prepares for his farewell Test against Bangladesh at the Galle International Stadium, starting June 17. The match will not only mark the beginning of the 2025–27 World Test Championship cycle but also the final red-ball appearance for one of Sri Lanka’s most dependable cricketers of the modern era.
Having made his debut in 2009, Mathews has featured in 118 Tests, scoring 8,167 runs at an average of 44, alongside 33 wickets. His performances place him third on Sri Lanka’s all-time Test run-scorers list, behind only Kumar Sangakkara (12,400) and Mahela Jayawardene (11,814). The 37-year-old all-rounder confirmed his decision, stating, “It is time for me to say goodbye to the most cherished format of the game, international Test cricket.”
