Jon Stewart Mocks Trump for Bragging About the Weather at His Boring Birthday Parade
The military parade that just-so-happened to fall on Donald Trump’s birthday appeared to be a boring and sparsely attended affair, but at least the President scored a major strategic victory over the meteorologists.
On Saturday, the United States Army descended on Washington, D.C. celebrate Trump’s 79th birthday and their own 250th anniversary. Despite the dramatic build-up to the ceremonial show of force, the army parade was far from the biggest news story of the weekend, a fact that The Daily Show host Jon Stewart had to acknowledge at the top of tonight’s episode in order to explain why he and his staff spent last night scrambling to rewrite the script.
Don’t Miss
Amidst national demonstrations against the Trump administration, ongoing anti-ICE protests in Southern California, political assassinations in Minnesota and escalating conflict in the Middle East, America wasn’t feeling particularly celebratory when Trump’s birthday party temporarily disrupted traffic in the capital — but at least the weatherman didn’t rain on Trump’s parade.

After highlighting the embarrassingly low turnout and visible boredom of many of the parade’s VIP attendees, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Stewart played a clip of Trump setting “a specific and low bar of success” for his birthday celebration, which cost the American taxpayer roughly $45 million. “Last night was a tremendous success with a fantastic audience,” Trump bragged to the press on Sunday. “It was supposed to rain. They gave it a 100 percent chance of rain, and it didn’t rain at all. It was beautiful!”
Stewart joked, “Nothing says I just turned 79 like shouting about how the weather forecast was wrong!” Imitating Trump in his best Trump voice, Stewart continued, “It was a tremendous success! They said it would rain, I knew it wouldn’t rain, you know how I knew? My right knee didn’t bark! If it’s gonna rain, it always barks!”
Unfortunately for the Daily Show staff (and for the entire world, really), Trump’s bummer birthday parade ended up being one of the most mild and forgettable news stories from this past weekend — which you just know incensed the Commander-in-Chief. Don’t be surprised when the budget breaks ten figures for the Army’s 251st anniversary bash.
