How in the World Does Hank Hill Know the Phrase ‘Nepo Baby’?

We’re less than one month away from the triumphant return of King of the Hill following a 15-year hiatus, and during that time, Hank Hill has somehow developed strong opinions about Maude Apatow.

In the Hulu revival of King of the Hill, which is set to release its first season on August 4th, Hank and Peggy will return from an extended work stay in Saudi Arabia to find Arlen to be a very different place from the stuck-in-its-ways small town that they left. The equally traditional Hank Hill has never been one to follow the latest trends, but after so many years out of Texas, the steak-grilling, beer-drinking, Willie-Nelson-listening patriarch will have to contend with a new normal as ride-sharing apps, nicotine vapes and microbrews disrupt his day-to-day life.

However, even Hank has changed in the interim years since the show’s original finale, “To Sirloin With Love,” back in 2009. At this point in the King of the Hill canon, Hank is happily retired from the propane business, although, as we learned in today’s official King of the Hill Hulu trailer, Hank still sticks to his old ways of waking up at the diminished ass crack of dawn — presumably to read the latest piece of pop-culture commentary in New York magazine.

In 2025, Hulu Hank Hill knows and uses the phrase “nepo baby,” an update that, to more traditional fans, may feel like a swift kick in the gyatt.

Seriously, Hank and Peggy are supposed to be coming home after spending many years isolated from modern American culture while living in the Middle East. Are King of the Hill fans supposed to believe that, while selling propane and propane accessories in Saudi Arabia, Hank spent late 2022 and early 2023 following the Twitter discourse over Jack Quaids career?

This was the guy who, in the original series, thought that the “mile high club” was an official airline membership program. This is the same Hank Hill whose first experience with social media was when an unhinged accountant effectively doxxed him using the Strickland Propane Myspace page. Why, in Gods name, would Hank be up-to-date on the Twitter movement to expose twenty-something-year-old movie stars for getting famous off of family connections?

Thankfully, the rest of what weve seen from the new King of the Hill season is same-old-Hank stuff — he likes his beers simple and un-fruity, hell give an Uber driver four stars “so that you have something to work towards,” and he has no idea what to feed a vegan besides what comes out of his beloved lawnmower.

Considering how much hasnt changed about Hank, well forgive him if he once tweeted something snarky about Lily Rose Depp after watching The Idol — that show aint right.
