Harmanpreet Kaur to take inspiration from Rohit Sharma & bring India the 1st Women’s T20 World Cup

India’s T20 Women’s World Cup campaign will kick off on October 4 against New Zealand, before taking on Pakistan on October 6.

2016 was the year when West Indies cricket did the unthinkable. Stefanie Taylor led the women’s team to a remarkable win in the T20 World Cup in India. Few hours later, it was Carlos Brathwaite’s four sixes that clinched the men’s team their second T20 World Cup. And now India have a golden chance to repeat the heroics.

India women’s cricket captain Harmanpreet Kaur has expressed her desire for her team to draw inspiration from the recent T20 World Cup victory of the Rohit Sharma’s team as they prepare for their own global tournament in October. While it was the men’s team’s second T20 title, the women’s side are yet to clinch any major silverware.

Harmanpreet Kaur is ‘ready’ for T20 WC!

Speaking at an event in Delhi on Tuesday, Harmanpreet emphasized the importance of learning from the men’s team’s approach and body language during crucial matches. “We need to learn how they maintained their body language for such matches and how they approached such games,” she said. “We’re on the same road now and getting ready for our World Cup campaign.”

The women’s team has come close to T20 World Cup glory in the past, finishing runners-up in the 2020 edition. However, they have faced setbacks in recent tournaments, including losses in the finals of the ODI World Cup in 2017 and the Commonwealth Games in 2022. It was only a few weeks ago when an underdog Sri Lankan team toppled a strong Indian team in the Women’s Asia Cup Finals.

The World Cup is a kind of tournament for which all teams prepare differently,” Harmanpreet acknowledged. “So no team can be taken lightly and similarly no team should be overestimated either.”

With the T20 World Cup set to begin on October 3 in Sharjah, India will kick off their campaign against New Zealand on October 4. The team will face tough challenges from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Australia during the group stage. The ultimate goal is to reach the final and secure the coveted T20 World Cup title. The final is scheduled to take place in Dubai on October 20.
