Charlie Day and Rob Mac Recreate Iconic Meme on the ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ Red Carpet

Charlie Day and Rob Mac may have fought the urge to bow at each other during It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s 20th anniversary event, but they couldn’t resist recreating one of the show’s most iconic moments.

On Tuesday, Mac, Day and several of their Always Sunny co-stars headed to L.A.’s Paley Center for Media for an event both celebrating the FXX staple’s legacy and the show’s upcoming 17th season. Beyond posing for photos and answering questions from the press, the pair decided to pay homage to one of the bigger memes to arise from the series while on the red carpet, reconstituting the “Mac and Charlie Notice Each Other” meme from Season Eight’s “The Gang Dines Out” in a clip shared to social media.

“Yeah dude, Charlie’s looking right at me,” Mac lip-synced along to the episode’s audio, the camera cutting between him and Day, who stood bug-eyed across the carpet.

Posted to the Always Sunny official Instagram page alongside the caption “I’m gonna stand and bow,” fans flocked to the comments with GIFs, quotes and snarky comments about Mac’s newly-minted moniker, and a few clever jokes honoring the classic episode.

“He wore two colognes,” wrote one fan, while another rattled off a Dennis Reynolds-approved list of awards they deserve for their commitment to the bit. “Freaking GOLD. Gold medal, gold trophy, golden god,” they joked. “They deserve it all.”

Hey, we’ll drink to that — so long as Dennis hasn’t dumped out our expensive bottle of Chilean wine back into the restaurant’s bucket.
