Euro 2024: UEFA and German Police begins investigation after fan vs security fight during Portugal vs Slovenia Round of 16 clash

Another turmoil is brewing in the UEFA Euro 2024. The German police at Frankfurt has decided to conduct an investigation after a fan was spotted being manhandled by the security. Videos have emerged of a fan being punched and kicked by stewards during the Portugal vs Slovenia clash in the Euro Round of 16.

“(We)aware of an incident which took place between stewards and a fan from the Portugal vs. Slovenia match and condemns any violent behavior. The incident in the video is now the subject of a police investigation. UEFA is not in a position to comment further until the investigation has been completed,” the UEFA said in a statement.

The videos showed that a person was detailed on the floor while the other person was reportedly kicked on the head thrice. The Frankfurt Police too have started their investigation on the matter.

“We are aware of this and are already investigating,” the Frankfurt Police wrote on social media.

Events like this are tarnishing the mega tournament which is currently taking place in Germany. Ever since the start of the tournament, there has been lapses in security. Fans too have been involved in ugly clashes.

Apart from these events, the UEFA has also fined numerous countries for breaking rules in the tournament. Recently, the UEFA is also investigating Turkish defender Merih Dermiral’s controversial celebration after scoring against Austria in the knockouts.
