Gavin & Stacey tops Christmas Day ratings : News 2024 : Chortle : The UK Comedy Guide
The Gavin and Stacey finale has – unsurprisingly – won the Christmas Day ratings battle, attracting an average of 12.3 million viewers,
It was the largest Christmas Day audience in 14 years.
Overnight data shows that the new Wallace & Gromit animated comedy film, Vengeance Most Fowl, was the second-most-watched show, with 9.4 million viewers.
Gavin and Stacey attracted the biggest December 25 audience since the previous Wallace and Gromit film, A Matter Of Loaf And Death, entertained 14.3 million in 2008.
Nearly 7 million people watched the King’s Christmas message on the BBC, ITV and Sky News yesterday, with the top 5 completed by Call The Midwife and EastEnders, both on 4.4million.
All figures will rise when catch-up viewing is also taken into consideration. The previous Gavin and Stacey special, which aired on Christmas Day 2019, eventually amassed 18.5million views when those figures were incorporated.
