According to reports, the incident unfolded around 10pm local time at Baggio’s home in Altavilla Vicentina, a small town situated roughly an hour’s drive from Venice. While Baggio and his family were engrossed in the high-stakes Euro 2024 match, a group of five ruthless individuals capitalized on the opportunity to break into their home.

Upon noticing the intruders, the 57-year-old Baggio displayed remarkable courage by attempting to confront one of them. However, the situation quickly escalated into a struggle. The former footballer was struck over the head with the butt of a gun by one of the robbers. The attack left Baggio with a head wound.

Baggio’s family locked up, valuables stolen

Following the assault on Baggio, the robbers locked the family in a room and proceeded to ransack the house. Watches, jewelry, and money were stolen before the thieves fled the scene.

After ensuring the robbers had left, Baggio managed to break down the door and contact the police. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, where he received stitches for his head wound. Thankfully, Baggio’s family members were not physically injured during the ordeal. Local authorities are currently investigating the incident, collecting statements from the Baggio family and reviewing surveillance footage.
