Erewhon’s $19 ‘Raw Animal’ Smoothie Contains Cow Organs
Want to beef up your smoothie game at Erewhon?
The luxury health food chain, famous for its celebrity-endorsed blender concoctions, has featured a drink on its menu for about a year that contains raw beef organs mixed with kefir, breast milk, maple syrup and berries.
Yes, you read that correctly: The smoothie contains uncooked liver, heart, pancreas, kidney and spleen that once belonged to a cow.
The fact that the organs are freeze-dried before being pulverized for easy scooping might not make the smoothie go down any easier, however.
The concoction, dubbed Dr. Paul’s Raw Animal-Based Smoothie, sells for $19 and was created by Dr. Paul Paladino, a fitness influencer and author whose book The Carnivore Code preaches an organ-heavy diet.
The drink has become the latest tonic-bar star at the chain, with TikTokers filming their reactions to tasting it. According to The Los Angeles Times, it is “off-the-charts yummy — rich and sweet and creamy, with notes of blueberry and banana and a lingering coconut base.”
One Instagram user, below, is among many who are filming their reactions to trying the concoction:
It joins a growing list of Erewhon tonics to contain animal products, including Jing City, a $15 bone broth that features “ant essence” and deer antler.
