Emma Corrin is dishing on their character in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine movie!

The 28-year-old actor is taking on the role of Cassandra Nova, who is presented as the evil twin sister of Professor Charles Xavier, marking the comic book character’s live action debut.

Ahead of the release of the new movie, Emma teased their role, how it came about and who they looked to for inspiration in bringing the character to life.

Ryan [Reynolds] and Shawn [Levy, director] pitched this idea, which I was totally on board with: ‘We want this villain to not be a villain in the sense that you expect them to be. We want you to be so endeared by her, so charmed by her, and just when you think that maybe she’s totally seen into your soul and you are going to be best friends for life, you’re dead,’” Emma shared with EW.

“They wanted her to be super unpredictable,” they added. “Shawn used to say this thing about, we want to see the weather change. She can play the sun, and then the clouds come, and you have no idea when it happened or what just happened.”

Emma shared that Ryan and Shawn brought up an image of Christoph Waltz‘s Hans Landa from Inglorious Basterds, noting “he’s so disarmingly polite and nice and unaffected, and it’s really creepy. It’s all the more sinister because he doesn’t need to do anything.”

As for in the movie, Emma teased their scenes with Deadpool and Wolverine are “a bit heavier” as you get further into the movie.

“You really see the switch, which I really appreciated in Logan,” they added, in reference to Hugh‘s 2017 solo film, which was the last time he played the character. “It’s big, deep, deep feelings in these characters and their values and what they go through and their traumas. I was like, ‘Wow! There’s a whole universe here that has come before and a universe that will come after.’”

Last year, Emma shared that they really got a crash course in all things Marvel after they were cast in the upcoming movie.
