Earl Spencer discovers Roman bracelet in grounds of Althorp Estate during excavation – days after he’s spotted on date with archeologist

Earl Spencer has revealed he has discovered a Roman bracelet in the grounds of the Althorp estate during an excavation – just days after he was spotted on a date with an archeologist.

Princess Diana’s younger brother, 60, has been sharing details of the dig on the Northamptonshire estate with his 244,000 Instagram followers.

Last week, the father-of-seven posted a photo of the half-excavated Roman well and said it was ‘as beautiful as any modern sculpture’.

Over the weekend, Charles – who was seen on a date with Norwegian archaeologist Cat Jarman earlier this month – shared details of his exciting discovery on his social media.

He gushed: ‘Beautiful Roman bracelet unearthed at Althorp this week. Last worn? Probably 1,600 years ago, judging by the age of the spoil it was found in.

Charles Spencer and fellow podcast host Cat Jarman appeared relaxed in each other’s company during a theatre date earlier this month

‘Imagine losing it…. And then accepting that it would never be found.

‘I will show you what it looks like after we’ve carefully restored it to something approaching its original glory.’

Although Earl Spencer didn’t identify the woman in the photo, Dr Cat Jarman was pictured with a dark manicure while walking around London’s Soho with Earl Spencer last week.

The pair – who host the history podcast The Rabbit Hole Detectives – were seen walking to the Prince of Wales Theatre, where they watched a performance of the hit musical comedy The Book Of Mormon.

‘They looked into each other’s eyes and there seemed to be a strong attraction,’ one onlooker said. ‘They were both laughing as they walked to the theatre and he didn’t use his VIP status to beat the long queue.’

Viking expert Dr Jarman completed a PhD at the University of Bristol in 2017. She was recently named Nordic Person of the Year by the Confederation of Scandinavian Societies.

Earlier this month, Earl Spencer revealed the ‘immensely sad’ news that he and his third wife Karen Gordon, 52, a Canadian philanthropist, were divorcing.

The pair married in 2011 and share 12-year-old daughter Charlotte Diana.

Their relationship is understood to have broken down amid the strain of him writing his harrowing memoir, A Very Private School, which details the abuse he suffered at boarding school.

His wife was absent from his book launch events at Althorp and Spencer House in London in March, while Dr Jarman praised his ‘beautifully written’ memoir on social media.

He’s reportedly hired divorce lawyer Baroness Shackleton of Belgravia, known as the ‘steel magnolia’, to represent him.
