Donald Trump Celebrates Stephen Colbert Firing That Allegedly Wasn’t About Pleasing Donald Trump

Comedy fans and insomniacs were no doubt shocked to learn that CBS has opted to cancel The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, which will now “end its historic run in May 2026 at the end of the broadcast season.” Among other things, this likely means that New Yorkers can look forward to shopping at an Ed Sullivan Theater-shaped Duane Reade by around June.
While the network brass defensively claimed that this decision was 100 percent financially-motivated, the timing is extremely suspicious.
As angry South Park fans are well aware, CBS’ parent company, Paramount, is preparing to merge with Skydance Media, which requires approval from the Trump administration’s FCC. In addition to the fact that Colbert is a vocal Trump critic, he called Paramount’s $16 million settlement with Trump, over a 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris, a “big fat bribe” on Monday’s show.
Don’t Miss
Several Democratic lawmakers, including Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Rep. Pramila Jayapal, called out the network for seemingly firing Colbert for “political reasons,” allowing the corporation to further cozy up to the president who currently controls the fate of their $8.4 billion deal.
You know who’s not helping CBS make it seem as though this decision wasn’t made purely to appease Donald Trump? Donald Trump.
The president just took a break from his busy schedule of denying sending birthday cards to notorious pedophiles to weigh in on the current state of late-night television. “I absolutely love that Colbert got fired,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “His talent was even less than his ratings.”
Trump also suggested that now he hears that Jimmy Kimmel, who “has even less talent than Colbert,” is “next.” Which could be interpreted as an indication that the administration is going to push for Disney to fire Kimmel – something that wouldn’t be that surprising considering that Trump has reportedly pressured the company to censor the comedian in the past.
Trump also noted that Fox News’ “Greg Gutfeld is better than all of them combined, including the Moron on NBC who ruined the once great Tonight Show.”
Wow, he couldn’t even be bothered to name Jimmy Fallon? At least he capitalized “Moron.”
Again, Trump’s public celebration just makes this whole situation seem even more suspicious than it already did. And we really wouldn’t expect anything else from the guy who can’t refrain from verbal diarrhea-ing every single thought that pops into his head, up to and including top-secret military missions and the majesty of Arnold Palmer’s junk.
