Moana Pasifika’s Irie Papuni has been given a yellow card for making head-to-head contact with Ollie Norris.
“He is upright and he’s going upwards, so to me it’s a clear yellow card and the guy is off the ball as well,” said the referee.
The television match official also agrees with the referee.
It’s a strange one as Norris wasn’t a ball carrier and the yellow card is immediately questioned by Moana Pasifika players.
“There are so many things they talk about in terms of mitigation,” said Kane Hames on Stan Sport’s coverage.
“Does the ball carrier drop and all that sort of stuff. This is a cleanout though. This is one of the weirdest ones you will see because it’s a cleanout area.
“They’re asking the right questions. He’s not even a ball carrier.
“Watch every ruck moving forward and the amount of upright players you’ll see. It is a bit of a weird one. We’ll see if it gets upgraded. I hope it doesn’t.”
