The UFC’s most notable fighter, Conor McGregor, has announced that a bout with Michael Chandler will “for sure” happen in 2024.
The two united on X over McGregor’s response to the mayhem that ensued following an assassination attempt on former U.S. President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania on Saturday. The trio of tweets ended with McGregor confirming that, after speaking with UFC CEO Dana White, a date for the fight has been discussed.
“I talked to Dana today about our new date, all looking good! 24′ for sure,” McGregor tweeted.
It was originally announced back in February 2023 that the two will be stepping into the octagon, with a date to be set for later that year. Fast forward to 2024 and the calendar was finally marked for them to face off at UFC 303 on June 29 in Las Vegas.
However, just over a week before the event, McGregor withdrew himself due to injury. The former featherweight and lightweight champion took to Instagram explaining he will be sidelined due to a broken toe, which he said was due to “a little lapse of concentration.”
Boasting an MMA record of 22-6 — with 19 KO wins — the 35-year-old has not fought since breaking his leg against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July of 2021. His only win since 2016 was a 2020 TKO of Donald Cerrone.
Chandler, 38, has not fought since being submitted by Poirier at UFC 281 in 2022.
